Taman Subang Ria remains recreational

The application by Sime Darby to subdivide and convert the usage of Taman Subang Ria from recreational to residential/commercial has been rejected by MPSJ. MPSJ has said that the application contradicts the Draft Local Plan (which has been approved by the Selangor State Government).

About 7 groups of residents in Subang Jaya including Subang Jaya Residents' Association and JKP Zone 1 have been protesting the application by Sime Darby. These photographs have been taken at the protest held on 6 March 2010.

The Menteri Besar of Selangor Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim attended the dialogue hosted by my office at Holiday Villa on 28 April 2010. About 600 residents turned up for the dialogue and below were the following suggestions raised which were agreed by the Menteri Besar:

(1) a representative from the Consumers' Association of Subang Jaya has suggested to the State Government to conduct a valuation exercise and the residents will assist to raise funds (a dollar to a dollar) to acquire the park back from Sime Darby

(2) a further dialogue to be held to discuss on the acquisition option when valuation report is ready

(3) MPSJ to clean up the park

I have received an update from the State Planning Director that the valuation report will be tabled at the State Planning Committee meeting in June 2010. When that is ready, I will be calling for another round of dialogue and consultation session with the residents of Subang Jaya. Meanwhile on the cleaning up of the park, MPSJ councillor Theresa Ratnam has also informed us that MPSJ has sent letters to Sime Darby on the matter. Sime Darby is doing the cleaning in stages. MPSJ will inspect the park to ascertain the condition. More updates to follow.

YB Hannah. MPSJ has made a right decision to make Taman Subang Ria a recreational park. You have done a great job and we hope you get elected again in the next DUN election.
